Star Swap

I know I have been away for ages for one reason or another but am now back and hopefully going to be posting work that will be done during the summer hols. What better way to get back into the swing of things by receiving someone else's wonderful work in the post. Months ago I sent a star to Stitch Magazine for a swap. I had forgotten all about it and it was a lovely surprise to receive this lovely start entitled A Star For A Persian King by Barbara Butler. The long delay was due to the fact that there was a large response to this swap and that it coincided with another competition that also had a very big response to it. Anyway thank you Barbara -the star now hangs in pride of place in my study. Thought you might also like to see the star I made. It is made from silk paper (something I love to make and use a lot).

Come and Play!

*****Thank you all for the wonderful response to the call for new members.
We now have a wonderful, vibrant group and a waiting list!!*****

This little known Yahoo group is run by myself (Alis) and Jan.
We came on-line to keep in contact with our members that had moved away, were now at university or had jobs.
Sadly we have dwindled and would love to have some new members.

The group is textile based and low volume to allow for other commitments.
We like to run 2 swaps per month based on a theme.
For example the theme could be Layers and the swaps could be a mini quilt and a bookmark.

You will not have to do both swaps and indeed you will not be forced to swap - where is the fun in that.
But we hope you would enjoy being in our playground enough to join in share ideas and swap when you can.

We would like all abilities.
Perhaps you have been working with textiles for a long time.
Maybe you used textiles a long while ago and think you would like to get back to this great medium.
You may even have never attempted any thing with textiles but would love a fun and supportive group where you can learn.
If you like to share and create with textiles we would very much love you to join us.

We would like to keep the group small, perhaps limited to around 25 members. This way there is an influx of ideas but we will be able to get to know one another without pressure.

If you think you would like to come and join us in our playground please e-mail me (addy in my profile) for an invitation. Or leave a comment here and I will get back to you.

Go on, come and play. Hugs, Alis and Jan.

Second Journal Cover for Swap

I have finished the second journal cover for the June swap. This is going to Fiona. The colours were chosen with her in mind as she loves very vibrant pinks. They were quite a change for me but I really enjoyed working with the bright pink/orange/yellow. A lot of fun to make.

I know it isn't quite June yet but for once I am a bit ahead of myself and this is the first Journal Cover for the June swap. This one is on its way to Ali. Hope she likes it.

Second Quiltie for May

This is the other quiltie for the theme Layers.

I made silk paper for the background the appliqued separate pieces of fabric paper I had previously made. These were attached by machine stitching. I then added a piece of braiding and a bit of a machine pattern and the final touch is a little heart bead. Hope you like it.

May's Quiltie Swap

This is the first quiltie for the swap in May. The theme is layers. I have had fun researching layers from layers of peeling paint to rock layers. This piece is based on rock layers. I have layered paper and tissue which has been painted with koh-i-noor dyes. When dry I free machined in places then added some handstitching in silk thread.

My Bookmarks

Bad pictures I know but these bookmarks just did not want to be photographed.

I started out with layers of organza and Glitterati on a piece of felt and lay chiffon over the top. I stitched lots of wavy lines into this. I cut the new fabric into strips and stitched it to velvet.
To make the bookmarks I cut 4 strips and stitched them back to back.
I used glitter thread for the tassels and sewed beads around the neck (I think that is what you call it).

They are quite thick but you won't loose your page!!

Hugs, Alis
